Within Wild Spaces
Wildness reminds us what is means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from | Terry Tempest Williams
The Creation of Within Wild Spaces
My relationship with the outdoors has always been strong, having been fortunate to be raised by a family who encouraged connection to British wildlife and coastlines. Then, many years ago I participated in my first week long Outdoor Adventure Residential and this started my long and winding journey to this point, today.

I have now been working in mental health, with both children and adults for 15 years. I began as a youth worker and school mentor, eventually qualifying to become a social worker for children and adults within a local authority mental health team. Later, I changed course to work directly and holistically with young people and their wellbeing as behaviour management in various educational settings. It was the success rate of this work and the feedback from these children which encouraged me to undertake my MSc, in which I also studied ecotherapy and nature connection.

I continue to work with adults who may be experiencing a distressing period in their life, or perhaps are ready to revisit the past. There may be experiences of anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, grief and loss where the therapy space can provide an opportunity to explore, process, and gain insight into these emotions, experiences and relationships.

Coming full circle, Within Wild Spaces was created to explore the connection of the natural outter world and our natural inner world. We all carry wild spaces within ourselves and often, framing these within a natural environment can help us to understand ourselves better. Although I encourage this aspect of my work, I continue to work in a traditional way with those who would prefer indoor therapy. You will find these options on my sessions page, or alternatively feel free to be in touch for a chat about a way which might suit you.

Approach

I practice the humanistic modality of person-centred counselling, this means that I am a non-directive practitioner, offering a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Whether the space is indoors, outdoors or somewhere in between, I will always offer the same principles of my practice: non-judgement, acceptance and empathy.
